Citizens Canine

Life can be tough for a canine cineaste. Somehow, whenever dogs show up on the big screen, it is either in insipid outings like Air Bud and A Dog's Purpose or--worse!--such defamatory depictions as Plague Dogs and Cujo. Two paws down! I hated, hated, hated these movies! This is why it is so exciting to see, at long last, a serious auteur provide a nuanced portrayal of the greatness of four-legged furry fellows: Mr. Wes Anderson, who has previously dramatized both the human and vulpine worlds in such films as Moonrise Kingdom and Fantastic Mr. Fox, is now turning his camera upon a whole pack of courageous canines in the upcoming Isle of Dogs. Here's the trailer:

I can't wait to settle down with some pawpcorn at my local movie emporium, and revel in this masterpiece. And, yes, I do know that the Isle of Dogs is an actual place in London, and that if you say it out loud the title sounds like "I Love Dogs."

Cry Havoc and Let Slip the Dogs of War!

While my human parents are peaceable people, I did grow up watching a lot of war movies--especially World War II movies (two of my grandpas fought in WWII and never let me forget it).

But I always wondered, where are the dogs? Sure, you see an angry Alsatian here and there for local color, but not too many flicks feature fidos fighting for freedom--even though many of my canine brethren gave their lives for the Allied cause.

So, I decided to enlist myself to stand in for those brave lads (and labs) who proudly served in the fight against fascism and tyranny--a fight that never seems to end. Here is Wing Commander Kipper, wishing all peace-loving people a Merry Christmas for 2017.

New Year's Resolutions

It is a New Year, which means it is time for a fresh start--or a re-start as the case may be. People want more Kipper, and so who am I to deny them?

Even though 2018 is the Year of the Dog--but, really, when isn't it my year--I thought I would go back in time and show you what you missed in 2016, when I was just un bon chien looking to be a little bit mal on the streets of gay Paris.

Kipper's Countdown to Christmas: December 25th

It's here! I just unwrapped and played with my owl toy from Santa! And my gift to you is this lovely picture of Yours Truly. Have a wonderful day--whether you are celebrating Hanukkah, Id al-Adha, Christmas, Kwanza, Saturnalia, Winter Solstice, Festivus, or any other holiday! Dog bless us, every one!

Kipper's Countdown to Christmas: 24th December

A dog dressed up for winter pastimes (sledding, sleigh rides) was a great concept for a holiday card. How was I to know that this was going to be the warmest December on record? Even so, my modeling session this year produced so many great pictures that lucky recipients of my annual Kippercard have seen one of two limited-edition images--and I'm now sharing both of them with adoring followers of "The Whole 'Kip' and Kaboodle." Here's the first one!

Kipper's Countdown to Christmas: 23rd December

In this picture from my puppyhood of 2007, I'm dreaming of a white Christmas. Eight years later, it's fifty degrees and foggy with thunderstorms. But, if the weather outside is frightful (in all the wrong ways), this blog about to get even more delightful: I'll be unveiling my 2015 Kipper Christmas Card pictures right here on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!

Kipper's Countdown to Christmas: 22nd December

Last year, I became "the Bark of Avon" for my annual holiday card: an all-time great Kipper moment! All the same, I was disappointed to find out that Hamlet isn't actually a small meat product.
